Are you Listening

Recently, my daughter experienced the opportunity to go from “Believe in God” to “Believe God”. The last two blogs were about “Believing God” over just belief in God.
My neighbor yelled at my daughter to slow down her car since there were a lot of young children in the neighborhood. This obviously made my teenage daughter furious, she asked me to walk over to their house to talk with them. Her way of talking would be to tell them “how dare you” tell my daughter to slow her car down.
I said to my daughter, you need to slow down maybe God is telling you something. Sure enough a few weeks later, she gets pulled over by the police, for you guessed it, speeding. She was going about 5 miles over which probably means 10 miles over the speed limit. This made her mad, how dare the police pull her over. She was in a hurry was her excuse.
A few months went by, she still sped her way around town. She went to the local gym to work out which is about 5-7 miles from where we live. On her way home, a few teenage boys followed her since the gym. It started to rain heavily, what I call a spot shower. For those who do not know what a spot shower is, it is when the rest of the area is sunny, but a large rainfall concentrates on a small area. In a few minutes it ends, the clouds go away.
My daughter is at a stop light with the young teenage boys behind her. She decides to turn right, accelerates to fast on the wet pavement and runs over the curb onto the grass and sidewalk. A call comes into my cell phone with her crying explaining she got in an accident.
Thank goodness she was ok. The car only needed a new tire and rim. This was definitely a teachable moment in time. God does talk to us, but do we listen. Last week, my blog was very hard on me which is why this is one day late. I have looked back these past few months wondering, have I listened to God. Is there something that Jesus is trying to tell me?
What about you? Is Jesus trying to talk to you? Protect you? Guide you? Give you wisdom? Do you “Believe in God” or do you “Believe God”? Jesus is alive through His Spirit to give us Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Guidance, Protection, and Security to those who “Believe God” can provide these things. Jesus will protect you, but are you listening to his warnings?
The next few weeks will be fun as we will look at going from “Believe in God” to “Believe God” starting with the chapters in John 13 to 17.
