Believe God

Believe God

John 14:1 LET not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

Two months ago, I wrote "Believe God". Paul is accused of a crime where King Agrippa finds He did nothing wrong to deserve death. He still clung to God even after all that happened to him. It is a good read for those who need a reminder.

This brings us to Jesus Christ as his days on earth are almost done. Jesus and his 12 disciples finished eating bread and drinking wine, aka “The Last Supper”. After finishing dinner, Jesus starts to wash their feet wiping them dry with a towel.

Most people remember the last supper; in which, the story leads to Gethsemane which leads to several trials and eventually the Cross. Tucked away in John 14-17 is a little-known conversation between Jesus and 11 of his disciples before Gethsemane and the Cross. Judas left to meet the chief priests to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. In one passage, it says Satan entered into Judas (Luke 22)

Jesus reminds us in John 14:1 that our hearts should not be troubled but to believe what God and Jesus says. It is hard to “Believe God” in everything. This is probably the hardest part to trust and believe God for everything.

That is the irony of John 14:2 where Jesus says in God’s house are many mansions prepared for Christians who believe in Jesus. As you know, it is easier to trust in our riches than trust God. Some of the greatest joys in my life came when God answered my call during major struggles at that time. The intimacy of Jesus brought such comfort and peace at the right moment in time. Some of the worst times was when through my wealth, I tried to create this big moment without God.  The pain was deep and strong.

Judas trusted in wealth by selling Jesus out for 30 pieces of silver. My guess is he thought that wealth could buy him a big moment, but we know in the end it led to a sorrowful death.

What about you? Do you trust God will provide when you are in your need or do you trust in your wealth? Is your mansion here on earth or in Heaven? That is why John 14 says “LET not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.’

We will explore John 14-17 in depth over the next few days or weeks. It will bring a new light of hope that leads to the cross. The ultimate sacrifice where Jesus says his parting words in John 17:26 "And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it:that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”  A few disciples will tell us how they feel next time.
