Lending Money

Lending Money

MY son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler. Proverbs 6:1-6 KJV

The Holy Bible warns us to be careful when giving money to strangers and expecting them to pay it back. I learned at a very early age that when you give money to a friend or anyone, you shouldn't expect them ever to pay you back. You can tell them by their fruits if they pay you back. Sometimes, we make binding commitments with our words when we say things to family members, friends, acquaintances, and strangers. My words came back to bite me a few times, one just recently. When you commit to someone, I assumed there would be contingencies upon which the person in need would pay you back first. My words entrapped me to live out the commitment. It is a lesson learned, a hard lesson to learn.

Most of us have fallen for this trap. For those needing wisdom, take it from Proverbs 6 and humble yourself to the person who borrowed the money and ask for a plan to get the money back. In fact, the Holy Bible says to get the money back ASAP.
