Three Days

Three Days

Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

The is perhaps the most perplexing verse in the Holy Bible.  First, have you ever asked yourself, what OT Biblical Prophecy did Jesus fulfill for being raised from the dead after three days?  Second, why would Jesus tell us His resurrection is similar to Jonas being in the whale for three nights where Jesus is in the grave.

We are not told the significance but Day Three, Third Day, or Three Days seems to be popular with the Holy Bible.  Here are some examples:

1.  Jesus breathed life into Adam in Day Three (read my book).  Does this mean that Jesus was in the grave for three days because he made man in Day Three?  Interesting Coincidence.

2.   Abraham travels to Mount Moriah to sacrifice his son in three days (Gen 22:4) until God provided a ram in his place.  Does this have any meaning to it?

3.  The Hebrew people left the land of Egypt and the bondage of slavery into the Wilderness of Sinai.  Moses went up before God where He says the Lord Jesus will come down on the third Day to Mount Sinai to speak all the people. (Exodus 19)

4.  Queen Esther came to the Mordecai, her uncle, telling them to fast without food or drink for three days. She would go on to save the Hebrews from certain death from Haman. (Esther)

5.  The Jonah and the whale story where Jonah saved the people of Nineveh.  (Jonah)

6.  There is a little known story about two women giving birth in the same room.  One woman gave birth and three days later the other woman gave birth.  During the night, the second woman suffocated her child and placed the dead child with the other woman while taking her baby with life.  A dispute came about where the King got involved.  The woman whose baby died wanted to split the baby in half, one strange woman, and the other said no, let her have the baby.  The king decided the woman who gave up her baby for life instead of killing it in half, was the true mother.  What a strange story.  (1 Kings 3)

There are other verses around three or third day.  One could point to any of the above verses which would be pure speculation except one.  Jesus referenced the Jonah story who saved the town of Nineveh from shear death after being in the whale for three days, Jesus saved all of mankind from death on the Cross and going into the grave for three days.  We will all find out if there was more when we get to Heaven where it will all make sense.
