Unity (Part 1)

In his speech yesterday, Joe Biden talked about bringing "Unity" to the United States.  I found it an irony that for the last five years the same political party was the opposite sowing chaos and division.  They certainly did not sow the seeds of harmony but disharmony and discord.  He used the word Unity nine times and uniting three times in 2400+ spoken words.  

I normally would not bring politics into my blog but this actually fits into my last three posts about "Yoking".  What does Jesus and the Holy Bible say about Unity?  The word Unity appears three times and uniting zero times in 800,000+ written words.  To be fair, the Holy Bible does use the word unite twice.

Unity started back in Genesis 2 when God said Adam and Eve would be one flesh.  Genesis 2:24 they shall be one flesh.  Unity was short lived, Genesis 3 tells us the crafty serpent beguiled (tricked) Eve into eating from the fruit of Good and Evil thus causing a division between God and Man.  

 Fast forward a thousand years to the last of the three patriarchs in Jacob.  In Genesis 49, Jacob gathers all of his sons around as his days are numbered to live here on earth.  When it comes to his two sons Levi and Simeon, he spares no mercy with them in Genesis 49:5-7: 

"Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. 6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel."

Can you feel the fathers pain and anguish calling his two sons "instruments of cruelty"?  I can.  Imagine being these two boys, sons of a father whose disappointment hits deep in their soul.  Jacob does not want to be knit to their soul or united in their lives.  I have written many times in this blog and in my books about being knit to the soul of individuals.  The good news for the tribe of Levi, his lineage became the Levitical Priests who are responsible for the house of the Lord.  Just for reference, the house of the Lord is mentioned 234 times in the KJV.  

Jacob praised their brother Judah even telling his brothers they will bow down and give praise to Him and his lineage.  Wait, that was Joseph's dream.  Now you are telling me Judah will be bowed down to.  The good news for Judah's seed is his lineage leads directly to the birth of a saviour, our saviour Jesus Christ.  

As we close this quick intro, Unity is a very powerful and special word to God.  Unity like Liberty is what we, Christians, have in Jesus Christ.  I am not trying to sell my book but in "His Love, His Word", at the end of the book I explain Christianity with Liberty.
