Who are these guys?

Who are these guys?

Exodus 31:2-6  See, I have called by name Bezaleel... I have given with him Aholiab.

Who are these two Bezaleel and Aholiab?  Before we learn we need a backdrop.  Bezaleel came from the seed of Judah who is one of the sons Leah had with Isaac.  The first three sons Reuben, Simeon, and Levi were to try to get her husband Isaac to love her.  The 4th son of Leah was Judah.  She changed her heart from trying to get Isaac to lover her, to praising God for giving her a nother son.

Genesis 29:35 Now will I praise the Lord: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

Wow, what a verse.  I highly recommend you read Genesis 29 to get the whole story but Isaac loved Rachel not Leah.  Sad story with a happy reward for Leah in four sons.

Sometimes we dont understand the big picture and we try or force things like love onto others that may not want it back.  In this case, the Lord blessed Leah because of the hatred (Genesis 29:31).  Imagine being Rachel, she was barren while Leah gave birth four times.  If we go back further, Isaac worked hard for seven years to marry Rachel only to be tricked by their father in marrying Leah first.  Isaac worked another seven years to marry Rachel.  I have to say this, Isaac truly loved Rachel to wait 14 years in hard labor in order to marry her and have children through her.  Think what it must be like to be Leah and Rachel whose father caused such a divide.

If you want to learn more about the Lineage of Judah, you would read 1 Chronicles 2.  I would also recommend a separate study of Judah's life as it is truly a roller coaster of a life of highs and lows.  In the end of his life, Jacob blessed Judah saying his brothers would praise his life.

Back to the two characters, Bezaleel and Aholiab.  The Lord said to Moses these two people will be filled with the Spirit of God in Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding and workmanship.  What will they do for the Lord?

Exodus 31:4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.

Bezaleel and Aholiab would not be the only two as other's would also be apart of this project.  What is the project? They are going to make the following:

Exodus 31:7 The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle, 8 And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense,9 And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot,10 And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office,11 And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.

Wow, two guys the Lord chose with a few others not mentioned have the task or project of building out the tabernacle, the ark, and mercy seat as well as other things.  Amazing right.  Leah's fourth son's lineage provided Bezaleel to be the person to fulfill the Lord's work.  Praise the Lord, even when we are hated by those close to us, the Lord still uses us to bless His name and nation.  We don't always understand or see the promises of the Lord, but each one of us plays a role in the works the Lord needs to bring light to a dark world.
