Word of Truth

Word of Truth

Colossians 2:4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. KJV

Colossians 2:4 Now this I say, that no man may deceive you by loftiness of words.  Douay Rheims

Colossians 2:4 For this thing I say, that no man deceive you in height of words.  Wycliffe

Ephesians 5: 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words.   KJV

What I thought was going to be an easy post has turned in to be quite the opposite.  For the past few days, I have written down key points saving it until the next morning.  When the next morning comes, what I wrote the night before just disappeared from this post.  Here goes another try.

Paul's message here to the Church at Colosse was very similar to his warnings to the Church at Ephesus and Corinth as well as to Titus and Timothy.  People will deceive you in the words they speak.  Paul tells Timothy and Titus there will be unruly, vain talkers, and deceivers in words.  Each of the descriptive words like unruly, vain, enticing, height, and loftiness are different yet very similar in warning us to watch out for people who want to deceive us in their words.

When we break down Colossians 2:4, the word beguile appears seven times while deceive per the Douay Rheims/Wycliffe appears 75 times in the King James Version.  Beguile appears the first time way back in Genesis 3 when Eve describes what happened with the serpent in the garden.

Genesis 3:13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

When speaking to the Church at Corinth, Paul speaks about Eve being beguiled by the serpent, aka later Satan.

2 Corinthians  11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Words matter according to Paul especially when it comes to the truth of God's word the Holy Bible.  Fast forward to today, a similar warning still applies.   I wrote several examples in my last post "Philosophy and Vain Deceit".  There are hundreds of interpretations of the Holy Bible.  I personally use the three above King James, Douay Rheims, and Wycliffe because they are three of the oldest translations of the Holy Bible.

When you study a verse(s), look at these three versions to see if it aligns with what is written in the version you are using is different than these three.  Don't quote Old Testament scriptures to make a point, Jesus has spoken exactly what a Christian is to be and become every single day.  Our life is around Jesus, it does not mean we are not supposed to read and understand the Old Testament.  It means Jesus fulfilled all the Old Testament 613 laws and 10 Commandments.

Our life is to do works for Christ, not our works, His works.  Not our will, His Will.  Any person saying otherwise is deceiving you.  Live for Christ.
